Phineas And Ferb-Dan Povenmire and Jeff “Swampy” Marsh

I’m sure that some of you are familiar with this iconic show by Dan Povenmire and Jeff “Swampy” Marsh due to the revival that had many people buzzing (myself included), which aired in early June 2025. For those of you who don’t know, Phineas and Ferb is an animated series that follows the two stepbrothers as they try to figure out what to do during their summer vacation. Each day, they end up building an amazing attraction, and everyone seems to know about it but their mom. So their older sister, Candace, takes it upon herself to bust the boys…and inevitably fails at the end of the day due to the mysterious disappearance of the invention. Meanwhile, their pet platypus, Perry, occupies the side plot as he foils the scheming Dr Doofenshmirtz’s plans every day as a secret agent. Unbeknownst to the rest of the cast, Perry and Dr D’s battles are the reason why the invention disappears each day.
That’s basically what happens in every single episode. However, the reason this particular show is one of my all-time favourites is that, while the basic plot may be the same, each episode is wildly different in terms of what happens, with Dr D sporting a completely different Inator and the boys a brand-new invention. I recall an episode where the boys and their friends visit the minigolf place, but it’s closed. And they end up CREATING a minigolf course as their invention. Not to mention the incredibly catchy songs that nearly every 11-minute episode includes, and the fact that, as the show evolves, the side plot gets more interesting and the reasons for each invention become even more varied. All of my favourite hero-villain dynamics come back to Perry and Dr D. This show is also really family-friendly, with an engaging plot for kids and jokes that teens and adults can enjoy! Honestly, it’s very light-hearted and humorous so I would honestly recommend it for 5 and up because most kids will really like the songs, and it’s incredibly easy for them to follow with action to keep them engaged!
Another thing I really liked about it was that everyone genuinely got character development. If you don’t want spoilers, I suggest you skip ahead to the end of the review. Two amazing examples of this would be Buford and Baljeet, especially with the way they interact with each other. The first time we see Burford, he’s the stereotypical bully that you see in some cartoons and Baljeet is the standard model nerd-ahem, top student that he picks on. But as the seasons progress, Buford is revealed to really care deeply for his friends (and his goldfish) and Baljeet becomes more than the nerd we all assumed he was, by revealing how he’s good at thinking on the spot and his ability to think up inventions is incredible (as for building them? Not so much.). Also, at the start, Baljeet specifically asks Phineas and Ferb if they can help him hide from Buford, who’s out to steal his lunch money. However, after a while they become much friendlier than they were before and they’re visibly closer after they’ve had a fight, joking around and everything! Baljeet is no longer afraid of him and Buford becomes more closely involved with the gang, dropping the bully act and learning to appreciate their company!
If you’re interested in watching it, it’s most likely available on several major streaming platforms. Thanks for reading and see you next week!
